TO SHOOT AN ELEPHANT and Gaza Report Back
the defenestrator’s nominally monthly film night presents:
7pm Thursday January 28th
An Eyewitness Film of Israel’s bombing of Gaza The Gaza Strip has been under siege since June 2007, when Israel declared it an "enemy entity". Thanks to the efforts of the Free Gaza Movement, and despite the Israeli ban on foreign correspondents and humanitarian aid workers to cover and witness operation "Cast Lead" on the ground, a group of international volunteers, members of the International Solidarity Movement, were present in Gaza when the bombing started on Dec. 27, 2008.
Together with two international correspondents from Al Jazeera International (Ayman Mohyeldin and Sherine Tadros), they were the only foreigners who managed to write, film and report for several radio stations what was happening inside the besieged Palestinian land. Were they journalists? Were they activists? It doesn’t matter. They became witnesses. Watch what they witnessed…
Plus hear a speaker after the film: Luca, an anti-occupation activist in Palestine who was in the West Bank during the Israeli attacks on Gaza last Dec-08 and Jan-09 with the International Solidarity Movement (www.palsolidarity.org)

IWW delegation to Gaza report back
Last month the Industrial Workers of the World sent a delegation to the West Bank to learn about how the Israeli occupation affects workers and union organizing, and to build international solidarity with Palestinian workers. Local IWW members will talk briefly about the trip and answer questions about current conditions in the West Bank.
